Top Ranking PPSSPP Action Games You Should Play

Recently I’ve been writing about games I’ve played on the PPSSPP emulator. In some of my articles, you’ll find the top PSP games. One thing the PSP is known for is to have a large library of titles. From categories such as role-playing, adventure, horror, etc.

Action games are a category of games on the PlayStation Portable and after playing a couple of names, I couldn’t help but share. I also noticed how some of these games seemed to be demanding. You’ll need to use a controller to enjoy them and also enhance graphics for better gameplay.

Aside from the drawbacks mentioned above, there was nothing else coming in the way of my experience. In this guide, I’ve handpicked the must-play ppsspp action games for anyone who loves action showdown in video games.

1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories

If you love action games in an open-world environment, GTA Vice City Stories is a recommended choice for you. As one who has played most GTA games, I came across this one and I can’t help but appreciate its brilliance. Playing it for hours, I completed over 59 story missions, drove cars, and unlocked some cheat codes. The action gameplay in Vice City Stories is top-notch and playing it on the PPSSPP made sense.

2. God of War: Ghost of Sparta

God of War - Ghost of Sparta

There’s no way action games would be mentioned on the PPSSPP without including God of War: Ghost of Sparta. This is one of the top-rated God of War games of all time due to its immersive storyline. In this game, Kratos embarked on a quest to find his lost brother Deimos. I loved the action, graphics, boss battles and the mini-games added more spice. With over seven locations, magics and weapons, it’s an action title you should play.

3. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands offers real-time action gameplay on the PSP. A couple of times I’ve played the game on PC but the experience of playing on my Android device using the PPSSPP feels different. One of the reasons why you’ll love this version is due to its side-scrolling action with smooth parlours. With over 20 levels present, the game features traps, puzzles and enemies that ignite the action.

4. Tomb Raider: Legend

Tomb Raider Legend

Made from the actual movie, Tomb Raider: Legend continued the legendary journey of Lara Croft. You’re looking at one of the best action-adventure games on PSP. As the player, you’ll play through over seven massive levels, with each one offering a unique action twist to keep you on edge. The gunplay in this game is smooth, you can use grenades, shotguns and assault rifles. It combines action and puzzles, making it one of the best games on PSP.

5. Dante’s Inferno

Dantes Inferno

Dante’s Inferno has always been compared to God of War. However, playing the game made me realise the similarities. Unlike GOW where Kratos needs to face off against Gods and monsters. It’s quite different from Dante’s Inferno. In this game, you’ll be battling through 9 circles of Hell. There are over 24 levels and loads of challenges to keep you busy. Also, the controls are smooth, and the overall gameplay is based on dark fantasy action.

6. Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

When talking about games based on movies, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings is one of those names that’ll be mentioned. You’ll love it not just because of the action in it, but due to exploration and the puzzle-solving gameplay. It’s a game where adventures and action combine. On the PPSSPP, it’s one of the most-played due to smooth controls, graphics and save state compatibility.

7. N.O.V.A.

N.O.V.A.

Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance (N.O.V.A) was once labelled the Halo of the PSP era. It’s a game that features sci-fi shooter action on the PlayStation Portable. There are over 13 missions across planets and space stations, packed with gunfights and alien battles. A standout feature of this game is the amazing ultra-realistic graphics. Besides, it can even be enhanced further thanks to the PPSSPP GPU enhancement feature.

8. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Essentials

As a kid, one of the collections of games I played during childhood was that of Tom Clancy’s games. Splinter Cell: Essentials wasn’t something I was familiar with earlier on, but it got my attention. After spending hours, the stealth-action experience just felt different. Despite being fully based on stealth, you can still play through missions where action is needed. There are over 11 missions and different gadgets to keep you engaged.

9. Dead to Rights: Reckoning

Dead to Rights Reckoning

Another game that brings top-notch action to the PPSSPP screen is Dead to Rights: Reckoning. This third-person shooter delivers intense gunfights, slow-motion shootouts, and brutal melee attacks. When it comes to action from shooting games, this is one of the few games where you’ll get it. The missions are over 15 and the beauty of playing is that you can use dual pistols and different types of guns.

10. Transformers: The Game

Transformers The Game

If you love Transformers, this game lets you play as Autobots or Decepticons, reliving the events of the 2007 movie. It’s not just reliving the events of the movie that makes this game unique. What makes it special is how one could transform a vehicle into a robot anytime. It makes sense and delivers unique action gameplay. In this game, you can explore different characters, play through missions and engage in boss fights.

Conclusion

That sums up my list of PPSSPP action games you shouldn’t overlook if you’re reliving the classic PSP experience. If you play any of the mentioned titles on your smartphone or PC, you’ll get to see why they top the charts. Whether you’re a fan of classic shooting or a deep hack-and-slash lover. From the list of games above, you’ll surely find the perfect one to play.
